It was an epic battle for the 1st ever election to select the Mayor of the Decks...the clear winner? Everyone on the packed dancefloor literally from start to finish! Chicago legend Zebo made the trek up to Madison for a seriously killer party. I kicked things off and we then switched off every half hour... suffice to say we went all over the place musically and it was one of the best parties I've been a part of for ages. Global warming has caused our winter in Wisconsin to be more or less non-existant, with the exception of a few days here & there. It was THE Holiday Party of the year, our Mad Men Holiday Soirée @ Madison's historic Majestic Theatre was truly a trip back in time. The entire crowd was dressed in vintage attire & it really felt like you were transported back to the early 1960's. By popular demand here's my set from the party. On December 17th 2011 we held our 1st annual Mad Men Holiday Soirée at the historic (built 1906) & beautiful Majestic Theatre in Madison, Wisconsin. In preparing for my set that evening I dove headfirst into sort of a forgotten era of great music circa 1958-1966. I literally just threw this mix together & ended up realizing it basically would have been a set I'd drop at an afterparty if I had been alive & dj'ng back in 1966. Throw this on for the perfect party soundtrack to keep your guests happy. Enjoy the trip....

Classic mix from 2002 that I unearthed from my archives. I had a period of my life where I spent a lot of time listening to an AM radio station that was geared primarily to the 65+ crowd, featuring the 'Music of Your Life'. The ads on the station were hilarious, one of them began with the opening line, 'if you have teeth...'. They played all the standards you would expect and had guest dj's such as legendary game show host Wink Martindale. They would also occasionally throw in some more obscure songs here & there. I had the idea of slipping into their studio and whipping together a cd-length mix for all the listeners. This is what I cam up with. I don't have a tracklist for this mix anymore but in features the following artists & more...Henry Mancini, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Françoise Hardy, Serge Gainsbourg, Matthew Herbert & Nancy Sinatra.

The atmosphere in the bars in the area has been insane. This is my set for a killer party hosted by the Majestic Theatre (115 King St.) located in the heart of the action. It happened literally just a few hours after another massive rally of 100,000+ people. I had the pleasure to open up for Designer Drugs and drop some dancefloor heat. 2010 was an amazing year for me, from becoming a Dad for the 1st time to playing at a wide array of awesome shows such as Deadmau5, Bonobo, L.A. Riots, Matthew Dear & many more. To close out 2010 & ring in 2011 properly I spun at a fantastic NYE party at the Orpheum Theatre in Madison, WI.
The Orpheum has been around for over 80 years and has seen it's fair share of crazy parties & legendary performances. The spirits that haunt the place were in a festive mood this year and held off from any of the legendary shenanigans that tend to occur there. Instead it was just a raging dance party that drew a huge crowd and also one of the most diverse (age-wise) I've seen in Madison, especially for an underground rave-like event. I went on after a great performance by local faves, Dirty Disco Kidz and kept the party going into the wee hours. I ended up spinning lots of my choice cuts from the past year, some new stuff & of course some New Year's classic jams. 2011 is off to a great start, enjoy the mix and Happy New Year!

If you need a SERIOUS Daft Punk fix this mix is for you. What started as just a random idea turned into an amazing party at the Majestic Theatre in Madison, WI (usa). We projected the original Tron on a giant movie screen while I spun an entire set of Daft Punk. The rules were simple, anything by Daft Punk, solo or side projects, remixes & original sample sources were fair game.
It was a bit of a challenge not only to spread that out over 4 1/2 hours without repeating the same tracks, but even more so to mix, as I was wearing a full-on helmet. I literally could only see my dj setup and could barely hear my headphones. By far the most surreal dj experience I've ever had as I could only hear the crowd and feel their presence. But amazingly it all turned out fine with only one massive trainwreck! I spent tons of time encoding my old vinyl and hunting down elusive tracks. Hope you all enjoy it, I certainly did.
It was the first time I've ever spun an entire set from one artist and it was fun for me to put together an homage to their great body of work. It was also nice to know that there were more than a few people at the party that saw their U.S. debut (in 1996) here in Wisconsin.

Quarantine II was another epic event that actually felt like a proper rave. Brad Owen & I dove much deeper into our respective crates to provide a rave-tastic journey through forgotten classics of the techno past. Brad kicked it off like a proper rave with some ambient to set the mood. And we both played tracks we haven't spun in ages. A mix of mine from April 2005. The 1st in a series of requests for classic mixes that I'll be putting back online. Newly remastered as well. I made this one on the day Pope John Paul II died. I'm no fan of the Pope but the energy in the air that day was definitely more than a bit trippy. This was one of those spontaneous mixes that resulted from a lack of sleep and a hazy afternoon. Mixed in the pre-Scratch Live days with vinyl & cd's as well. I wanted to put the beats back into beatification.

My opening set for the absolutely epic & mindblowing Deadmau5 show in Madison,WI. Arguably the biggest electronic event to hit the area since Daft Punk made their U.S. debut here in 1996 (in Spring Green, WI). My set ended up being a lot longer than anticipated due to Deadmau5's flight being delayed. So I played everything from deep house, techno, dubstep, electro & a few classics thrown in for good measure. As always it's mixed 100% live using Scratch Live. No pre-made mixes or anything. Just proper dj'ng and going with the flow of the night.
Most of you know I never plan my sets out and this was truly a pleasure to set the mood for the 4,000+ people who ended up showing up to party. It was truly a night I'll never forget nor will the city. Another reason why Madison rules!

A unique mix for kids that adults will enjoy too. So in addition to dj'ing a ton I have been babysitting my 2 nieces quite a bit. They're 2 1/2 and 1 year old and after hearing Barney's annoying drivel one time too many I decided to take action. I put together an odd selection of music and dialogue from my childhood as well as things that were just outright bizarre from well before my time. I wanted to make something that children would enjoy but adults would dig as well either from the irony or grooviness of the songs.From Johnny Cash with Oscar the Grouch to Mr. Rogers to the Pointer Sisters to Carole King to Helen Reddy to Bert & Ernie and lots of the Sesame Street crew. This selection has it all. If you have a kid I'm sure they'll dig it, my nieces loved it with the older one dancing around to many of the songs. And they now hate Barney!
Frobble is a generic term for plastic bits and pieces of toys. It seemed perfect for all the musical scraps that I used to make this mix. It's by far the oddest mix I have put together ever.
All of the selections are from original children's vinyl many of which I listened to as a kid. Sesame Street had some amazing guests on the show in the 70's, it's a shame they're so hard to find.

Classic 90's house, techno & club cuts inspired by my years as a resident dj at the Queen club in Paris. From 1993-1995 I was a resident DJ there and it was pretty much at Queen that I cut my teeth as a dj. I was hired by none other than David Guetta who was the artistic director there at the time in addition to being a dj for some of the special events there. My nights consisted of 7-9 hour sets, (all vinyl of course!), totally up for it crowd, insane dancefloor energy, dj booth literally on the dancefloor (with no booth monitors for the first 6 months or so!) and loads of good music that's slipped through the cracks in the mp3/laptop era of dj'ng we're in now. It was also the birth of the whole 'French Touch' house scene and you'd see all the young producers out on the dancefloor soaking up the vibes.
I've recently been trying to archive lots of tapes & music from that era as I have tons of tapes from that time. Upon listening to lots of these tapes one thing was apparent...the level of dodgy mixing from all of us there was astonishing! But the music and energy were so good that mixing was always secondary to good track selection. So I felt like it was time do a nice mix of lots of the tracks that were actually being played in that era. Lots of the stuff on this mix is encoded from my original vinyl copies. After going through my records from that era it's truly astonishing the amount of music that isn't available as an mp3 and never will be. So I'd like to think of this as another mix in my 'archive' series. Hope you all enjoy it!

SWITCH! is an idea that my friends and I came up with one smoke-filled evening... The idea is that it's a way to have some fun on the rare occasions when we're all dj'ng in the same block of town and to have neighborhood bars work together rather than against each other. Since the venues we play at are usually the only bars open in our neighborhood it's a pretty easy idea for people to follow.
The premise is that starting at around 11pm we begin a rotation between the places we're spinning at. We each leave our 'home' bars to go play a short set at each other's bars, allowing enough time to have a drink at each establishment. No flash drives allowed, you have to use each person's unique setup and attempt to figure out their library organization as well as hopefully not repeating any tracks.
So at 11pm, Mike Carlson leaves the downtown Great Dane to head over to Natt Spil where Nate VPS is playing. Nate then heads up to Maduro and then I head down to the Dane. We continue the rotation until we each return to our 'home' bars. The whole process somehow takes longer than you'd think, so the 11pm start time allows us enough time to return 'home' at a reasonable hour, preferably well before last call!
Patrons can either choose to follow us around or stick at one spot and catch all 3 of us. No matter what it's always a blast and one of the reasons that makes Madison such a great place to live. It's also a reason why Sunday nights are my favorite night in town.

Amazing cocktails, an incredible ever-changing beer selection from around the globe, fantastic cigars, friendly & knowledgeable mixologists, open-minded patrons & electic beats sum up my weekly Sunday Soirée @Maduro (117 E. Main St. Madison, WI). It's always my favorite wind down to my usually hectic weekends as I get to play pretty much whatever I'm feeling, have amazing drinks & smokey treats in a classic, beautiful atmosphere. In this day & age of fascist smoking bans & fear it feels like a trip back to a better place in time every week. Musically it's always a pleasure to be able to play stuff without any dancefloor pressure. It's always more about the overall listening experience. Rather than posting up another huge file I divided this set into 2 parts. This is the earlier part of the night which is much more on the eclectic side. Both parts actually make up the full set from this particular evening but the 2nd part is on the deep disco & house side of things so I decided to break it up so you can play it according to whatever vibe you're looking for.

Time for a vintage rave set that's been rescued from the dead!
This was from one of many classic parties that happened in Madison, WI back in the late 1990's. The Eucalyptus crew threw consistently amazing parties. It's kind of sad to me that the whole era is gone now.
Originally recorded on MiniDisc (!). My friend Chris just rescued it last week and I decided to share it with everyone. It's got tons of classic house & techno cuts on it, many of which I can't remember the names of!
But I know it does include stuff by: DJ Sneak, Idjut Boys, Dave Clarke, Kings Of Tomorrow, Salt City Orchestra & many more.

Vintage Mix from 1993! Many people have been asking me for some of my old mixtapes so I figured now was the time to start to share them before they deteriorate completely. This is a mix from 1993 when I was living in Paris and had just begun to dj at the infamous Queen club on the Champs-Elysées. It includes lots of the big anthems at the time like Gat Decor,Hardfloor, Nightcrawlers, Capricorn/20Hz, Transformation, Zero Gravity & more...
This is taken from the original cassette tape. I made it with 1 turntable and my 4 track tape recorder (I didn't have a full dj setup back then and it wasn't even a Technics 1200). I did all the mixes from the 4 track onto 1 master tape so the sound quality is not so hot. And we won't even talk about some of the mixes!! But it's full of loads of fun memories nonetheless.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union Terrace is seriously one of the best places on earth to be in the summertime. When the sun is setting on the lake, a great band or dj is playing and the beer is flowing freely, there's nothing quite like it. As a local & an alumni I've had way too many crazy times down there for many years. That being said every time I get booked there it always seems to get rained out. This year I got my set started a bit earlier than schedule and actually got to play a full set before the floodgates opened for Andy Butler (aka Hercules & Love Affair). I ended up playing a set of a lot of my all-time faves, summer classics and tracks that remind me of the Union. Hope you enjoy the mix. All part of an awesome Summer '09 thus far...
